DAMPHU SAANJ ZALAK

Tamang Society of America presented a Nepalese cultural program "Damphu Saanjh" on December 15, 2001 in New York city.

After welcoming the participants, the President of Tamang Society of America , Mr. Subash Lama Tamang said "The purpose of event is to provide enjoyable night to all Nepalese communities in New York and help to preserve Nepalese cultures and to promote our traditions and cultural values. Mr. Tamang highlighted the historical importance of the musical instruments such as "Damphu and Tungna" in Tamang cultures and added more about the preservation of our cultural show Damphu Saanj.

The program highlights were continued for five hour-long. Beautiful customed Nepali dances and melodies performed by professional Nepalese musicians made Damphu Saanj the remarkable and unforgettable night.

Amateur Tamang dancers Surya, Meera, Rakhee, Gyurme, Ram and Sunita Tamang, dressed in a typical Tamang costumes welcomed the event. A famous Nepalese singer Sunil Uprety and dancer Tara Gurung presented their beautiful dance and Nepalese rythamatic melody song. Other artists were Maya Lama, Srijana Lama, Goma Yonjan(Gurung), Gyurme Sherpa, Ramesh Gurung, Nima Lama, Surya Tamang, Nara Bahadur Dahal, Nhuchhe Dangol, Sishir Shrestha, Raj Kapoor,and Paban Moktan.

Over three hunded Nepalese and other friends attended the programme. A delicious typical Nepalese food from Sagarmatha restaurent was served and DJ was echoed with the choices of Nepalese, Hindi and English songs at end.

Sushila Tamang, dressed in a typical Nepali costume, was a charming hostess of Damphu Saanj. Organizing committee members Subash Lama, Surya Tamang, and Ram Tamang were the key players in event.

Tamang Ghedung extend its special thanks to Tara Gurung, Sunil Upreti, Gyurme Sherpa, Gagan Birahi, Sushila Tamang, Jit Gurung, Goma Yonjan(Gurung), Ramesh Gurung, Nhuchhe Dongol, Sishir Shrestha, Paban Moktan, Nara Bahadur Dahal, Rakhee Lama, Luxmi Tamang, Meera Lama, Sunita Tamang, Raj Kapoor, Nima Lama, Shiva Tamang, Pentso Tsering, Bahadur Sing Tamang, Ram Nagarkoti, Hari Siwakoti, Keshab Raj Seadie, Dhaka Club, Photographers Omkar Gauchan and Dheeraj Karki, Jambu and Michael Lama of NY Jam for their commitment to TSA hosted program Damphu Saanj and to all commuinites participated in the event.
